June 24 - July 4, 2010
In the course of the festival "Platte, Schraube, Fuge" Michelle Phelan is presenting the Performance Conversation Pieces.
A video work animates and adapts imagery of 18th century architectural features. A contemporary garden feature is reconstructed in the gallery becoming both a sculptural element and a stage for play. A conversation takes place, live and in the past, around these and other memories.
opening: Thursday, June 24 at 8pm, live performance at 9pm
further performance: Sunday, July 4 at 6pm

MAI - AUGUST 2010
Michelle Phelan (Dublin, Irland)
The Irish artist Michelle Phelan is dealing with the notion and movement of space while searching for significant structures evoking fictional stories and options of action. Artefacts of urban and natural environment are used as fixed points and paths leading to possible scenographies. While doing so the artist is sensibilising to an observation and active experience of apparent gaps in the everyday interrelation of things. So what do we assume intuitively and which tracks are we following first of all? What happens to us, while figuring out how to mark our position? Michelle Phelan's artistic practice follows those questions involving various medias like installation, drawing, photography and moving image.
Michelle Phelan was born in Dublin in 1979 and studied fine arts painting and history of art at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin (1998-2002) as well as scenography at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (2004/05) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw/Poland. Her work was presented in various shows, performance festivals and theatres, e.g. the solo show at the Festival of Contemporary Performance at Camden People’s Theatre in London. Besides her artist career she works as curator. Today Michelle Phelan is based in Dublin.
